Nowadays, handling contacts is one of the challenging tasks one needs to deal with. You have their information, such as their source, location, what actions they have performed, and much more. But when it comes to sending them campaigns, you must pay close attention and organize everything and this is where segments come into the picture.
NotifyVisitors allows you to create different segments based on different attributes and user properties to track the key metrics of your campaigns easily. In this article, you will learn how to create a segment in the NotifyVisitors dashboard.
Different Types Of Segments
1. Navigate to the NotifyVisitors Dashboard > Segment > Create New Segment.
2. Click on 'CREATE NEW SEGMENT' and you can choose from the following options: -
a) Past Behavior Segments
• Action:- Segment users who performed one or more events in the past.
• InAction: Segment users who did an event but did not perform any event further.
• Action With User Properties: Segment users who performed any event, filtered by demographic properties. For example - You can create and configure birthday campaigns. You can automate the campaigns based on the users' birthdates (demographic properties).
b) Custom List
You can create a segment based on the list of users you have created and uploaded.
Navigate to the custom list segments and click on the list-based category to create a new list-based segment.
Upload a CSV file from your computer. If you need any assistance, read the instructions provided carefully or download a sample file by clicking on “sample file download” button.
Next, map your data with related user attributes, i.e, email with email, mobile with mobile, etc. In case you don’t see any related attributes in the drop down, simply type in the name of the attribute, then click on “create option.” A new custom attribute will be created.
Finally, click on the “upload” button, type in the name of Segment, and hit “submit.” And your segment will be created.
c) Pre-Built Segment - Pre-built segments are in-built segments that are based on events performed. The pre-built segments in NotifyVisitors are grouped by category - Engaged contacts, Disengaged contacts, Store activity, Shopping behaviour, and Likelihood to buy / churn.
Steps to Create Past Behaviour Segment
You can create a Past Behavior Segment based on the following parameters: -
A. User Profile
B. User Behaviour
Let's understand it better with the help of an example - Suppose you want to track the analytics for the drop-off users who visited your site and added the product to the cart but did not perform any action further. In other words, they added the product but did not purchase the product and dropped- it off from the site.
A. User Profile: Add the user property, i.e. the user attributes. If you want a track of the users who visited the site from a specific country, add the product to the cart but did not purchase the product. You can add "country attribute" and conditions and values as given in the below image.
Note: You can add other attributes also, such as UTM, source, location, traffic source, activity, system, etc. Add conditions and values accordingly.
B. User Behavior: Next, You can select "any rule" or "all rules must satisfy" conditions as per your requirements. Add the time frame and the count of the users (ADD CONDITION) who performed the event. For Example, we have added the users who have added the product to the cart but did not purchase the product.
Precomputed Action:
Once you have added the rules and properties, the next step is to mark the segment as ‘Precomputed’ to update the segment automatically whenever the user performs a similar event. This option is used to keep your segment auto-updated. There is no need to manually update it every time, your segment will be automatically updated when you tick the precomputed option.
If your segment is used in popup and signup campaigns the segment will be updated every 24 hours.
If your segment is used for Email / SMS/Push campaigns, the segment will be automatically updated before sending the campaign.
If you use the same segment in any other broadcast campaign, the segment will update after 4 hours from its last update time. If you want to use the same segment with the latest updates, it's recommended to reuse it after 4 hours.
If the segment is not being used in any campaign, it will not be updated even if the precomputed option is enabled.
At last, click on the “create” button, and then “publish segment” button to publish your segment. In case you don't want to publish the segment now, you can simply click the “create” button and go back to the segments panel. Your segment will then be saved as a draft so that you can edit it later before publishing.
You can also view all your created segments on this segments page. To edit, delete, duplicate, or view analytics, user logs, and campaigns, click on the three-dotted button right next to each particular segment.
Segment labels
Segment labeling functionality allows you to easily categorize and group similar segments together, making it more efficient to locate and manage them.
To use this feature, simply follow the standard procedure to create a segment. After defining the criteria and clicking on "Create," you will be asked to give your segment a name. In the same window, you will see the option to add a label. Choose from your existing labels or enter a new name to search. If you enter a new name, you will be prompted to create a new label.
Once labels are assigned to your segments, you can filter them based on the labels. To apply filtering, go to the segments section and select your preferred label from the "Segment Label" dropdown menu. A list of segments with that label will then be displayed.
How To Check Segment Analytics
To check the analytics of your segment, go to the already created segment and go to Analytics.
Once you click on Analytics, you can check the following things for your segment.
• Segment Definition: Properties of the segment such as event type, no. of users, etc..
• Segment Size: No. of known/anonymous users present in the segment.
• Reachability: No. of users who are reachable via different channels.
• Users List: You can check the profiles of users present in the segment.
How To Send Campaigns To A Segment?
The purpose of creating segments is to ease up the process of tracking and targeting the users based on user behaviour and properties. To use the segments across different channels, go to the already created segment and click on campaigns.
In this Campaigns section, you can create campaigns specifically for this segment, including web push, Android push, iOS push, email, SMS, and WhatsApp. You can also view all the campaigns that have been created for this segment here.
User Logs
The above table shows the overall information on each user. This user log table displays a detailed list of users as well as other important information such as:
Name of the user
User ID of the user
NVUID (NotifyVisitors User ID
Email Address
Phone number
Entry Segment (The date when the user entered the segment)
Last Updated (The time and date when the user attribute was last updated)
If you need further information about a user, simply click on its user ID to view more options in detail.
Conclusion
Segments can be used to target specific contacts, group preferences and filter them based on field data. Using segmentation you can view contacts and send campaigns based on their interests or the criteria they have in common. By following these steps you can create simple and complex segments, use them in campaigns or save them for later use.
