Countdown timer for website Pop-ups

Modified on Tue, 7 May at 4:52 AM

Every business faces the challenge of capturing and retaining user attention. As a result, marketers are always looking for new ways to increase engagement and drive conversions. Website pop-ups, especially those with countdown timers, are a fantastic tool for capturing user attention on your website. In this guide, we will explore how to create website pop-ups with countdown timers using NotifyVisitors.

Countdown timers are designed to create a sense of urgency and encourage immediate action. They are effective tools for grabbing visitors' attention on websites and driving increased engagement and sales. Integrating a countdown timer into your website pop-up through NotifyVisitors is a simple process. Whether you choose a fixed or variable timer, you have the flexibility to customize it according to your specific marketing goals and preferences.

Steps to add countdown timer to your website pop-up

To get started with the Countdown timer feature, simply log in to your NotifyVisitors account. After logging in, go to the "Onsite" section and choose the "Pop-ups" tab. From there, click on the "create pop-up" button.

Now, choose the pop-up type and select either a pre-built template or create your own from scratch. To learn about the creation process in detail, please refer to our article “How to Design Onsite Pop-ups.”

Once you're in the popup editor, design the content of your pop-up by following our guide mentioned above. Once your design is ready, you can add a countdown timer. To do this, click on the “Rows tab,” and from the dropdown menu that appears, select "Countdown Timer."

This will present you with two options to choose from:

A. Fixed Countdown Timer:

To set up a fixed countdown timer, select the "Fixed" tab. Here, you can enter a specific date and time for when the countdown should end, as well as the timezone in which it will be displayed. Additionally, you can select an animation style to make the timer more visually engaging. This is useful for events like product launches or limited-time promotions, creating a sense of urgency that encourages visitors to act quickly.

For example, suppose you are launching a new product on May 20th at 8:00 PM PDT. By configuring the fixed countdown timer to this date and time, you can create a buzz on your website, reminding visitors that the launch is approaching. This urgency can help drive early sales and ensure your customers don't miss out on the launch event.

B. Variable Countdown Timer:

If you want a countdown timer that is flexible and adjusts to each user's visit, choose the "Variable" tab. This option lets you set a countdown timer that begins counting down from a specified duration as soon as someone starts a new session on your site. This creates a unique timer for each visitor, providing a personalized experience.

For example, if you're hosting a flash sale, you might want each visitor to have a 48-hour countdown that starts from the moment they arrive on your website. By setting the timer to begin at 48 hours, you create a sense of urgency specific to each visitor, encouraging them to act quickly to take advantage of your promotion. You can also add different animations to make the timer more engaging.

Once you've chosen your desired countdown type (Fixed or Variable) and entered the necessary information, click "Finish" to create the countdown timer. This will generate a timer row, which you can easily drag and drop into a specific section on your popup banner.

Alternatively, instead of dragging and dropping the countdown row onto your pop-up, you can manually add a dynamic token. To do this, simply drag and drop a text block into your popup and type in the token {D} : {H} : {M} : {S}. This token will automatically display a countdown based on the countdown type (Fixed or Variable) and the time interval you've defined.

From here, you can tailor your pop-up to your preferred settings and styles. You can adjust its size, color, and other elements by simply clicking on a specific countdown token {D} : {H} : {M} : {S}. This allows you to set the text color, line color, line height, letter spacing, and more.

After you've finished customizing your timer, you can take care of the final steps, like setting up conversion tracking, configuring close/minimize buttons, and establishing targeting rules. Once everything is set, click the "Finish" button in the top right corner, then activate your popup by switching the status from "Inactive" to "Active."
